March Take & Make Kits From your Local Libraries

Our local libraries have been busy still bringing us great and free (or low cost) programs!  This pandemic has created a lot of take and make kits where you pick it up at your library but then complete the project in the comfort and safety of your home.  Here are the ones coming up in March.


Emma Clark Memorial Library 

TEEN Take & Make's

  • Chalk Your Walk (Community Service Credit) Supply pickup starts Monday, Mar. 1. Instruction through email
  • Recycled Book Flowers (Community Service Credit) Supply pickup starts Monday, Mar. 1. Instruction through prerecorded video.
  • Decorative Bunnies for Nursing Home Residents (Community Service Credit) Supply pickup starts Monday, Mar. 8. Instruction through prerecorded video.
  • Teen & Parent Baking Night: Jumbo Shamrock Pretzels Supply pickup starts Monday, Mar. 15. Instruction through prerecorded video.

To register for one or more of these Take & Make programs, please follow these simple instructions: 1. Email your Teen Librarian, Emily Ostrander at teens@emmaclark.org. In the Subject Line, put “Take & Make Registration.” in the email, provide your full name, grade, phone number and library card, and list the title of each program that you want to participate in. 2. Once you are accepted for the class, you will be told when and how to pick up the supplies, as well as how to access the instructions (prerecorded video, Zoom or email). Supplies are limited! Please register early to reserve your kit


Port Jefferson Free Library

Pick up these weekly kits, filled with everything you need to complete a craft, project or STEAM activity at home, on your own.


Comsewogue Public Library

  • Mother Goose on the Go - for kids 5 and under Register starting March 2 at 9:30am online, over the phone or in-person
    • Mother Goose on the Go (Click Here to Register): Reserve a kit filled with nursery rhymes, props, and activities to enjoy with your little one.
  • No-Sew Blankets (Teen) Click here to register (beginning March 2)
    • Make a blanket for donation and receive 2 hours of community service. 1. Register online; 2. Pick up your project kit at Children’s & Teen Services that has a QR Code with the instructional video. 4. Bring back your completed blanket to receive your certificate of service for 2 hours.
  • Rainbow Cupcakes (Teen) Click here to register (beginning March 16)
    • Make three cupcakes using fondant, buttercream, food coloring and marshmallows.  1. Register online; 2. Pick up your project kit at Children’s & Teen Services that has a QR Code with the instructional video; 3. Enjoy on your own time!
  • Knotted Avocado Pillow (Teen) Click here to register (beginning March 30) 
    • Craft your very own Avocado pillow. 1. Register online; 2. Pick up your project kit at Children’s & Teen Services that has a QR Code with the instructional video; 3. Enjoy on your own time!

Longwood Public Library

Family Storytime Kits We have various family-friendly themes for our new Family Storytime Kits that you can take home using our curbside service! On Friday of each week, we release a new themed kit that includes a craft, activity sheets, and a QR code that will take you to our digital storytime guide with links to eBooks and more extension activities for you to do at home. These kits are most appropriate for children 18 months to Pre-K but can be enjoyed by the whole family. Call the Children’s Department to reserve your Family Storytime Kit today and set up a pickup time! Themes for March and April include Flowers, Leprechaun Fun, Bunnies, and more!

Children (grades k-6) Each week we feature a new Curbside Craft that includes 1-3 themed crafts and a prerecorded video with one of your favorite librarians. Registration is required to pick up a kit since supplies are limited. Drop by the Children’s Department after registering online or by phone to pick up a kit. You can also call the Children’s Department to schedule a Curbside Pickup appointment at (631) 924-6400 x236.

  • Awesome Owls Week 31: Registration Wednesday, March 3 – Monday, March 8 
    • Whoooo’s reading this week? It’s Miss Stacey! Listen as she reads an owl story and then shows you all the cool ceramic owls you can paint at home with supplies in your kit.
  • Spring Cleaning Week 32: Registration Wednesday, March 10 – Monday, March 15 
    • Have you ever had too many toys in your room that you had to do some spring cleaning? Pick up a surprise kit this week and help us to clean up some of our crafts from previous Curbside Craft Kits
  • Lucky Charms Week 33: Registration Wednesday, March 17 – Monday, March 22 
    • Celebrate the fun of St. Patrick’s Day with our kit filled with rainbows, clovers, and a lucky charm!
  • Spring is Here Week 34: Registration Wednesday, March 24 – Monday, March 29 
    • Spring is finally here, and there are a lot of things blooming in this week’s kit filled with sand art pictures and a pretty spring wind chime for you to hang up and enjoy

North Shore Public Library

  • Virtual Storytime-To-Go Kits, 18 months – 5 years

    • Children will enjoy weekly themed Storytime crafts paired with our online resources to create an interactive Virtual Storytime. Weekly Craft Kits will be available beginning Monday, March 22 and run for eight consecutive weeks! Visit the library each week for a new Virtual Storytime Kit. No registration required.
  • Family Movie Night Kits – Secret Life of Pets Request kits beginning Monday, March 1
    • Enjoy Family Movie Night in the comfort of your own home. Each month we will offer a new movie theme. Movies can be borrowed from the library, or download similar titles through Hoopla or Kanopy on our website. Registered family members will pick up a Family Movie Night Goody Bag filled with popcorn, a juice box, mystery snack, and theme related crafts and activities. While supplies last. Call to register.
  • Lucky Me! Green Baby Kits, Ages birth – 3 years Pick up beginning Monday, March 1
    • Geared specifically toward our littlest readers! Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and everything green with these baby kits. Each kit includes a festive green surprise toy, simple green craft, fun sensory experience and St. Patrick’s Day rubber duckie! All registrants will be called to schedule an appointment to pick up their kit.  Click Here To Register – Registration Begins March 1
  • Dr. Seuss Birthday Craft Kit, All Ages Pick up beginning Monday, March 1
    • Visit the library March 1 – 7 to pick up a craft kit to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday! Dr. Seuss turns 117 years old on March 2, 2021! Kits are filled with everything you need to make special themed crafts. No registration necessary. While supplies last.
  • Surprise Ceramic Kits, Grades K – 5 Pick up beginning Monday, March 1 
    • Bring home your own DIY ceramic craft kit! Kids will get a surprise ceramic bank or flower pot in a variety of different designs. Paint kits will be included. All kits will be presented as a surprise; due to limited supplies, no special requests will be accepted.  All registrants will be called to schedule an appointment to pick up their kit. Click Here To Register – Registration Begins March 1
  • Sorting Challenge Craft Kits, Ages 18 months – 5 years Pick up beginning Monday, March 8 
    • Visit the library March 8 – 14 to pick up a craft kit that will challenge your child’s sorting skills! Kids will sort through the pieces to build two different crafts. These kits promote the theme of opposites, and help children develop observational and creative-thinking skills.  No registration necessary. While supplies last.
  • Pot of Gold Cupcakes, Family Pick up beginning Monday, March 15 
    • Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with these adorable Pot of Gold cupcakes! Each registered family will receive a Program-to-Go kit to create four cupcakes. Kits come complete with buttercream icing, mini marshmallows, a “pot of gold”, and candy rainbow! One kit per registered family.   • Perfect Pandas, Grades K – 5 Pick up beginning Monday, March 22 
    • Celebrate National Panda Day all month long with this adorable Panda program. This pre-recorded video teaches children all about the cuddly mammals. Kids will then create their own adorable Panda craft. Pick up your Program-to-Go kit and work alongside this pre-recorded video! Pick up starting week of March 22.   • Cherry Blossom Craft Kit, All Ages Pick up beginning Monday, March 29 
    • Celebrate spring being in full bloom with this fun craft! The DIY cherry blossom tree comes to life with simple craft supplies like pom-poms, making them look lush and pretty. These Program-to-Go kits are filled with everything you need to make these beautiful trees. All registrants will be called to schedule an appointment to pick up their kit.
